What is a Healthy Mindset


When you think about it, we really don’t control a lot that happens to us in life. That’s not to say we can’t take accountability in our lives, but think about it, how much of your life can you really control? None of us could control the pandemic we are currently facing, we can’t control what happens to our families, and we can’t control if we will be successful in the jobs we have or the businesses we start?


So does that mean we should throw in the towel, get back into bed and pull the covers over our eyes? Nope, it means we need to get smart and work on what we can control and then work to develop a mindset to help us succeed in the places we can control. Below are some ways you can develop a healthy mindset for success:


Learn What You Can Control – Now, we might not be able to control everything in our lives, but we control our response to these events. You control your reaction to circumstances for example, with this current pandemic you get to choose if you allow it to let you live in fear, or do you examine the pandemic for what it is and alter and make choices around it. We can’t control the actions of our family members, but we can control how we react and the boundaries we put up. Finally, you might not know if your job is going to let you go, or if that business you start is going to be an immediate success, but what you can do is ensure that you do your best, and if you make a mistake you learn from it and allow it to make you stronger. The idea is our actions give to reactions, and the smarter actions we make the smarter reactions will appear. Try this, write down on a piece of paper everything you are worried about, now write down what you can control and what you can’t. For the things you can control start to focus on action and what you can do to move things forward in the right direction.


When They Go Low We Go High – Michelle Obama said it best in her speech for change. In your life there are going to be individuals and groups of individuals that will not understand you or your motives, or will simply act in a way that is unfair to you. So you can try to go tit for tat as they say and get even, or you can take action. A healthy mindset is one where you understand life is not fair, and you will be treated unfairly, but the way to move things forward is not to hold onto the aggravation and resentment you might feel from being treated unfairly. Instead let this motivate you to do better, to be better, and to be the change you want to see in the world. This really works, and when you guide your energy towards positive actions and not negativity you allow yourself to grow and move faster in the right direction because you are not allowing negative thoughts to consume your mind along with useless and negative action.


Consistent Effort Over Time – No change happens from today to tomorrow, not even trying to change your mindset. It is going to take time, patience, and with any luck a good group of trusted individuals you can rely on who can help and support you on your journey. So be patient with yourself and just do what you can everyday. Small actions taken over time make for big events. If you don’t believe this look up the biographies of men and women who have done extraordinary things and you’ll note this mindset. Look at big events of change that have taken place in our history and note the efforts and time it took to achieve. If you can constantly be striving towards your goals, you won’t be able to stop yourself from achieving your goals, and it starts with your mindset.
